Brown’s Race 6 a Big Success – BBQ the best ever

33 boats and 34 paddlers competed in perfect weather at Brown’s Race 6 – held on 8 January. A bit more water and a bit less weed in the river meant that the times were up 30 seconds faster than last time.

The long race, handicap format saw an exciting finish with big bunch crossing the line together thanks to some luck with the handicapping.

Line-honours winner – Sean Mennitz – obviously needs to have some extra weight in the saddle bags for the next race. Sean improved on his last long race time by almost 4 minutes (must have got a big load of weed on his rudder last time or maybe it’s just good training?) making his 6 minutes handicap start time a little light on and giving him a handy winning margin.

Most paddlers stayed for the barbie, with the tabouli, vegie burgers and the special blueberry shortcake for desert being big winners. It’s good to see so many people staying after the race to socialise, with the last paddlers leaving after 9.00 as it got dark.

Thanks to Moya Deigan and Steve Billingham for the Start/Finish and Margaret Mollison and Steve for cooking the barbie.

The next race will be on 22 January. Entries from 5.45. Race from 6.15 (6.20?). Race format will be two races, Time Trial up, Group handicap back.
