Race #7 was held on TuesdayÊ8th May2005 and was a success, with 21 paddlers competing. There were again, some impressive times given the low water level!
The Time Trial event was taken out, overall, by Kris Clauson in 7:20 in a Time Bandit, from The DRR boats of Dave Gray in 7:39 and Carol Hurst in 8:22.
The Open Women’s was won by Carol Hurst in a 8:22 (Fastest Women’s time this season!) in her DRR boat from the multi-sport boat of Imogen Pierce inÊ8:57 and Kate Mollison’s DRR boat in 9:18.
In the DRR category, Men’s, Dave Gray in 7:39 was followed by John Borojevic in 8:42 and Alistair Stanny (TIS Talent Search) in 9:26. In the Women’s, Carol Hurst in 8:22 took out the event, with less than a second seperating Kate Mollison in 9:17.87 and Judy Clarke in 9:18.75 in second and third.
The Men’s Multi-sport was taken out, by Kris Clauson in 7:20 in a Time Bandit from the Time Machine’s of Bernard Walker 8:27 and John Dalco 9:53.
In the Sea Kayak class, Phillip Watkins posted a 10:39.
The Junior DRR paddlers just keep getting faster. Even TIS testing on the padding Ergo, prior to the race, didn’t slow the times. The records tumbled again with Kate Mollison posting a new Junior record of 9:18, to edge out Alistair Stanny (TIS Talent Search) in a PB of 9:25 (setting a new Junior Male record) from Alexander Lewis in a personal best of 10:07. Oliver Lovell (TIS Talent Search), paddled a Wizard to record a time of 9:33, taking 9 seconds off the previous fastest.
In the Wavehoppers, Andrew Koolhof took out the event in 10:25 from a virtual tie for second place with Mike Smith (TIS Talent Search) in 10:41.68 and Garry Bannister (TIS Talent Search) in 10:41:79!
The Handicap event was taken out by John Dalco’s Time Machine, from Alistair Stanny and Kate Mollison (almost a dead heat on Video!) – being only one of a few very close finishes! There was a spectacle mid course… and the spectacles are still there! Anyone finding a set of glasses in the mud on the golf-course side of the river 100m upstream of the first bend (doesn’t narrow it down much!), email me at adgray@ozemail.com.au and we’ll have them returned….
The final race will be a 2.8 km flatwater handicap race. Starting from the walkbridge near the beach, to a turn at the walkbridge at the golf course, returning to the beach walkbridge. All craft welcome. Entries taken from 6:00pm, racing starts 6:30pm. Next event, Tuesday March 22nd.
