The second last Brown’s race for the season – Race 10 – was held in good conditions on Tuesday 4th March with 27 boats competing.

Ben Maynard again proved too fast for the rest of the field to win comfortably in the time trial, followed by Brett Stewart and big improver, Mark Dunbabin. Carol Hurst was first home in the Women’s, comfortably beating Imogen Pearce by 16 seconds, despite Imogen being on a fast race ski. In the increasingly popular K3 category, Angus Sprott and his kids blitzed the field.

In the handicap race, Deena Kingdom held out a fast finishing Andy Townsend and Sharon Campbell to take Line Honours. The field was very close with all 27 paddlers crossing the line within 2 minutes and 5 seconds – a paddler crossed the line on average every 4.6 seconds, despite there being a 5 minute spread between the front and back markers at the start.

On corrected time, Ben Maynard was still too fast, beating the rest of the field, albeit by a smaller margin on the return leg than in the time trial. Carol Hurst hung on to win the Women’s again, and Justin Boocock was the first Sea Kayak over the line.

Don’t miss the final race – a long handicap race followed by the presentation barbecue. Food available will include Vegie Burgers, Fish Burgers, Hamburgers, Snags, Tabouleh – something for everyone. And a good selection of prizes for a wide variety of category and special prize winners.

See you all there.
