Paddlers and Officials were amazed by the result and wonder if it is a time which can ever be beaten. Officials were also heard to wonder whether every paddler will ever smile and yell their name as they cross the finish line to make identifying them easier when viewing the video finish. In both cases it’s doubtful..

In on water action, Dan Hall was clearly fastest overall in a time of 6:50.3 in the time trial, with Ben Maynard almost 20 seconds back and Matt Dalziel another 4 behind Ben. But Dan couldn’t back it up and pulled out out of the Handicap race, leaving Ben to comfortably win the second race in a wind assisted 6:51.92.

In the tightly contested Women’s Division, Carol Hurst and Jen Brown duelled it out, but in the end, Jen’s faster Time Machine helped her to a 3 second win in a time of 9:05.4 over Carol in her Savage 3000. In the Juniors it was Andrew Eckhardt in a time of 9:33.5 ahead of Daniel Watkins, recently recovered from a broken arm, in 9:59.8

Paul Templar was a beneficiary of some easy handicapping and crossed to take Line Honours in the Handicap Race over 30 seconds ahead of Andrew Eckhard. Daniel Watkins crossed 3rd but had reeled Andrew in to be only 4 seconds further back this race. Paul will no doubt feel the weight of the handicapper in future races and Andrew and Daniel are set for some epic contests.

Handicappers were pleased with the results with all 38 paddlers in the Handicap Race crossing the line within 2 minutes 26 Seconds, or one every 3.8 seconds. There were a lot of tight finishes and some exciting racing.

Thanks to Carol Furmston for the babecue, Moya, Margaret Mollison and Ashley Noble for Start/Finish duties and Molly for the much needed beer at the end.

Next race 16 December – the last one before Christmas, and a barbecue again.
