Browns – Race Record Equaled

Competitors jostled for position in the start bay as they waited with nervous anticipation for the start of yet another dangerous, dice with ducks on Browns Rivulet.

Almost beating the previous record, the 46 paddlers included the cream of Tasmanian and Australian paddling, including swag of current and former Australian Wildwater Racing Champions. Officials were heartened by the large number of competitors who’d actually paid their DCC membership (hint!).

In the DRR category Dan Hall narrowly won from a fast finishing Matt Dalziel who is like a good wine – getting better with age and still paddling his Avenger (and wasn’t The Avengers a good show – others in the Veteran class may remember that Emma Peel looked more than OK in her leather cat suit). And back to the race – Stewie Bennett and Andrew Maynard finished close behind.

In the Multi-sport class Kris Clausen won convincingly over Angus Sprott and Matt Costelloe, whilst in the nine-competitor women’s division, Carol Hurst was a close winner just edging out Jen Brown with Elsa Gale a short way further back in the field.

The race was followed by a wonderful BBQ thanks to Carol Furmston. Next Race, 2nd December, will be two short races and a BBQ again if weather permits.
