Brown’s Rivulet Race Series 2004/2005
Race 3 Results are out now!!
Race #3 was held on Tuesday 8th December 2004 and was a great success with 30 a record paddlers competing.
The competition was keen in this lead-up to next weekendĂ•s Tasmanian State Wildwater Championships, with the first 3 paddlers breaking the 7:00 min barrier! The Time Trial event was taken out, overall, by the sprint kayak of Matt Dalziel in another record 6:41 from Dan Hall in 6:51 (in a DRR boat!) and Peter Genders in 6:57 in a sprint kayak.
The Open Womens was won by Carol Hurst in 8:43 in her DRR boat from the multi-sport boats of Jen Brown in 9:33.03 and Viv in 9:33.08 in a very close race for second. Christina took out the short plastic class in a time of 15:07.
The hottly contested Junior DRR event was taken out by Michael Smith (TIS Talent Search Squad) in 11:35 from Alexander Lewis in 11:38 and Alistair Stanny (TIS Talent Search Squad) in 12:15. Andrew Koolhof was the sole junior multi-sport paddler with a fast 10:32.
In the Open Mens Sprint Kayak, Matt Dalziel took the honours in 6:41 from Peter Genders in 6:57 and Stuart McFadzen in 7:49. Open Mens DRR was taken out by Current Australian Champion Dan Hall, in 6:51 from visiting ex-Devonport now Victorian paddler Damon Bonney in 7:11 from Dave Gray in 7:46. Phil Murrell took out the Open Mens Multi-sport category in 8:03, in a Time Machine, from the Time Machine of Bernard Walker in 8:28 and the Dave Ross Wizard in 8:59.
The handicap race was taken out in fine style by first timer, Hanny Alston, with more than a minutes break on a close tussle for second, won by Jen Brown less than a second in front of Warwick Bonney….. see Race 3 Results for provisional handicaps for the next race!
The Junior Development squad again progressed well, paddling Wavehoppers and using winged paddles for the first time. Paddlers are now looking to consolidate times at under 12 mins for the Time Trial.
1.4 km flatwater races. First race being an up-river time trial from the walkbridge near the beach, to the walkbridge at the golf course, followed by a handicap race back down river. All craft welcome. Entries taken from 6:00pm, racing starts 6:30pm.
